The Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) has organised a marriage seminar for its personnel at the School of Maritime Operations Auditorium in Nutekpor on Tuesday, 9 September 2025.

The seminar facilitated by experts from the Ghana Navy Religious and Legal Affairs Directorates, the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) and the 37 Military Hospital Wellness Centre focuses on marital challenges, legal issues, abuse and psychological concerns.

In his presentation, the Director Naval Religious Affairs, Commander (Cdr) David Benedict Quayson highlighted the challenges associated with military marriages and encouraged personnel to prioritise open communication, intimacy and mutual respect for each other.

Speaking on abuse in marriages, DOVVSU representative Lance Corporal Gifty Kukubor defined sexual and gender-based violence as abuse directed at a person on the basis of gender including emotional, psychological, verbal and sexual abuse as well as child marriage. She urged personnel to identify warning signs, speak out and desist from blaming survivors.

Addressing the psychological challenges of military marriages, 7 Garrison Clinical Health Psychologist Captain (Capt) Christian Gyamfi outlined common difficulties and recommended strategies for resolution. He advised the adoption of pre- and post-marital therapy to enable couples to understand personality differences, enhance communication and strengthen conflict resolution.

The Flag Officer Commanding NAVTRAC, Commodore James Adongo Agambire expressed appreciation to the facilitators for their insightful contributions. He urged personnel to apply the lessons learned, stressing that the guidance provided would be valuable to their marital journey.
