PRESIDENT MAHAMA MEETS GHANAIAN TROOPS ON VISIT TO THE GAMBIA

C-in-C praises Ghanaian troops for their professional conduct, describing them as exemplary ambassadors of Ghana

The President and Commander-In-Chief (C-in-C) of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has interacted with Ghanaian troops deployed with the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG) during his visit to the country.

On arrival at The Gambia, both Gambian President, His Excellency Adama Barrow and the Officer Commanding (OC) the Ghanaian Company Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Abraham Puoriyelle Dery extended hearty welcome to him. 

President Mahama who met briefly with the Officer Commanding the Ghanaian Company and selected staff officers privately at his hotel, recieved detailed security briefing. 

In the delivery, Lt Col Dery highlighted the peaceful security posture within the Company's Area of Operation (AO) and reassured President Mahama that troops are in good spirits. 

The OC highlighted the Company's current situation, focusing on their operational, administrative and security preparedness. The OC indicated that they had no administrative or operational challenges, however he reiterated that efforts are being made to improve on the state of the Unit’s vehicles to enhance operations. 

Lt Col Dery wished President Mahama a safe and productive stay in The Gambia, safe travels and further thanked him for his time in meeting with the Company's personnel.

President Mahama praised the troops for their professionalism and for being exemplary ambassadors of Ghana, while also expressing delight in the conduct of the contingent. He urged them to keep up the good work. The C-In-C assured troops of his resolve to address their concerns. 

He further stated that things were progressing steadily back home, with the state of the economy being the major challenge his team was making efforts to remedy.

Time constraints prevented him from meeting the rest of the Company deployed at Barra in the North Bank Region. Nevertheless, he extended greetings from Ghana and stated his commitment to support them.
