The Commander of 2 Garrison, Air Commodore Eric Yirenkyi, led personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces to join the Western Regional Minister, Honourable Joseph Nelson, for a 10.5-kilometre health walk in Sekondi-Takoradi on Saturday 19 July 2025.
The event, organised by the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC) under the theme “Healthy People, Wealthy Region,” brought together members of the security services, civil society groups, corporate organisations, and residents from across the region.
The walk commenced at the Takoradi Mall, through key streets within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis and ended at the Sekondi Gyendu Park, followed by an aerobics session and free medical screening.

In his remarks, Honourable Joseph Nelson highlighted the importance of unity and social cohesion in achieving sustainable development in the Western Region. He commended the diverse and politically inclusive turnout, which he described as a strong endorsement of leadership and collective growth.

“This walk is not just about exercise. It is a symbol of what we can achieve when we move together in purpose,” he said.
He further encouraged the public to support initiatives that promote the health and wellbeing of the population while contributing to the region’s progress.
