The visit was to formally inform the Naa Gbewaa of his end of tenure as the GOC Northern Command and subsequent appointment to a higher office in Accra and also introduce the incoming GOC to the King. Major General Matthew Essien thanked the Naa Gbewaa for his support and cooperation he offered during his tenure as the GOC. He added that the successes and achievements chalked by the Northern Command could be attributed to the support from the Naa Gbewaa . He prayed for the same support to be offered to his successor. His Majesty Ndan Ya-Na Abukari II expressed his elation on the news of the promotion of the GOC and added that it was a testament to the good works the GOC had done in the region. He further assured the new GOC of his support to ensure peace and stability in the region. The incoming GOC, Brig Gen Frank Tei on his part thanked the Naa Gbewaa for his warm reception and promised to build on the legacies of his predecessor. The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Northern Command Major General Matthew Essien has on Tuesday 5 March, 2023 paid a courtesy call on the King of the Dagbon Land, His Majesty Ndan Ya-Na Abukari II at his place in Yendi.
