Ghanaian troops in the Gambia undertake activities to raise awareness on breast cancer

As part of activities marking this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG) GHANCOY 9 has undertaken a route march from Barra to Essau General Hospital on Thursday 9 October 2025.

The event, led by the Officer Commanding of GHANCOY 9, Lieutenant Colonel Ronne Yaw Agbemafle, also witnessed the participation of personnel from the Gambia Defence and Security Forces. It forms part of ongoing effort by ECOMIG to promote health awareness and strengthen relations between the mission and local communities in The Gambia.


The participants received a health presentation delivered by the Medical Officer of GHANCOY 9, Captain Albert Kwarteng, which highlighted the causes, symptoms and prevention of breast cancer, as well as the critical role of early diagnosis in saving lives. The session was followed by a free medical screening and consultation for attendees.


Lieutenant Colonel Agbemafle, commended the participants for their enthusiasm and reaffirmed the commitment of ECOMIG to supporting community health initiatives as part of its Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activities.
