The Physical Training (PT) School held the closing ceremony for the Advanced Physical Training Instructors Course 48 at Whistler Barracks, Teshie, on Friday 20 September 2024.

The 15-week course covered physical training theory, anatomy and physiology, first aid and leadership, vaulting and agility, gymnastics, rules and laws of games, and sport and adventure training.

 A total of 94 participants, drawn from the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, graduated from the rigorous and demanding course.

As part of the graduation ceremony, the graduates completed a 5km race, evacuated a casualty through obstacle crossing, and performed a gymnastic display involving head springs, splits and rolls, horse display, and individual performances at the PT Recreational Grounds.

Speaking on behalf of the Commandant of Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Rear Admiral Eric Adu, the General’s Coordinator (G-CORD) TRADOC, Colonel Edward Owusu Ansah, stated that the course was designed to equip physical training instructors with knowledge in the organisation of physical training, games, and man management at their various units and training schools. He noted that well-structured objectives were formulated to meet the overall standard of training.

“You are also advised to participate actively in your unit’s physical training, games, and other sporting activities. This will help improve your knowledge in officiating, coaching, and your confidence as advanced physical training instructors,” he added. He reminded them that the course placed them a step ahead in fitness and encouraged them to maintain their level of physical fitness by exercising regularly to sustain components such as cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility.

He urged the graduates to return to their respective units and assist in improving the standard of physical fitness among all ranks. He also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the participants from sister security services for the resilience and competitive spirit they displayed alongside their colleagues from the Ghana Armed Forces.

Awards were presented to students who excelled during the course. ACII Fawzy Mohammed received the overall best award, while L/Cpl Sumaila Mohammed Askanda received the best in gymnastics award. ABII Ampong Mary won the best female award, and G/L/Cpl Ofosu Benjamin from the Ghana Police Service received the best Allied student award.
