The Minister for Defence, Honourable Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has on Wednesday 23 July 2025, paid a working visit to the Ghana Military Academy (GMA) at Whistler Barracks, Teshie, to familiarize himself with the operations of the Academy.

In a welcome address, the Acting Commandant of GMA, Brigadier General Cornelius Kobla Lithur, expressed confidence in the government’s commitment to the development of the Ghana Armed Forces, followed by a brief on operations, organisational structure, training curriculum, ongoing and future programmes and challenges by Chief Coordinator of the Academy, Colonel Noble Carl Dei-Alorse.

In his address, Dr Omane Boamah commended the Acting Commandant and staff of the Academy for their dedication and sacrifices in producing competent officers for the GAF and the nation. He encouraged them to continue upholding the high standards of the Academy. The Minister called for reinstatement of training opportunities for personnel from ECOWAS member states. He noted that such collaboration would strengthen defence cooperation, improve bilateral relations and promote effective intelligence sharing to counter emerging threats in the sub-region.

He reaffirmed the commitment to addressing the Academy’s pressing challenges, developing a modern sports complex as well as initiating plans to complete Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) along the country’s borders.

Dr Omane Boamah also stressed the need for closer collaboration between training institutions and the enlistment department to ensure the selection of the most promising candidates for both the Academy and other GAF training schools. He cautioned against attempts to bypass established enlistment procedures, noting that such actions could negatively affect the integrity of the recruitment process. The Minister also has an interactive session with cadets of the Regular Career Course (RCC) 64, where he commended them for their resilience and dedication and encouraged them to maintain exemplary conduct in their final months at the Academy.
