The Commanding Officer of the Third Ghanaian Battalion (GHANBATT 3) of the United Nations Interim Security Force in Abyei (UNISFA), Lt Col Baffour Antwi Sarpong has been officially inducted into office on Saturday 27 July, 2024.

The religious induction service and consecration of colours parade which was held at the GHANBATT headquarters, Anthony Company Operating Base was dubbed, “Together we serve together we succeed”.

Speaking on the theme, the Clergy called on all and sundry to complement each other and do what is right for the success of the Battalion. A prayer for God’s blessings, protection and guidance was pronounced on the Commanding Officer (CO) and his Battalion, as the Clergy led him to pledge his allegiance to serve in love, truth and humility and be firm and just in executing his duties to Mother Ghana, the Officers and Soldiers under his watch.

In his address, the Commanding Officer, Lt Col BA Sarpong expressed gratitude, noting that the occasion was an igniting moment to propel the entire unit to work hard to achieve the purpose of the Mission.

He emphasized the need for personnel to maintain a professional posture, alertness, perseverance, and adherence to orders and work together to achieve the peace that Abyei deserves.

“Considering the threat and security situation, I urge you all to be disciplined, adhere to instructions, remain vigilant and adopt a more aggressive posture to ensure deterrence in order to create an atmosphere of peace”, he stated.

Lt Col Sarpong further entreated the Clergy to seek the face of God on behalf of the Battalion and urged all sub-unit commanders and key appointment holders to offer good leadership, command and control and good administration of troops.

The Commanding Officer finally seized the opportunity to thank all uniformed and civilian staff of UNISFA, Chiefs and people of Abyei for gracing the occasion with their present.
